Osteopathy at Rose Osteopathy and Wellness

What is Manual Osteopathy?

Manual Osteopathy is a hands-on, non-invasive, non-aggressive, drug free treatment that assesses and treats imbalances within the body. This treatment focuses on the imbalances within the musculoskeletal system and looks at the body as a whole, searching for the root of the problem. Manual Osteopathy utilizes three main techniques; joint mobilizations, muscle energy techniques and soft tissue therapy. Other techniques may include cranial osteopathy, visceral manipulation, strain-counter-strain, myofascial release, and lymphatic drainage. Most techniques are performed seated or laying down on a treatment table. Patients remain clothed during treatment. Manual Osteopathy is safe and effective in treating people of all ages.

Who is an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner and how are they trained?

Manual Osteopathic Practitioners hold a Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice (DOMP) from a college/ school in Canada that focuses on an intensive study in anatomy, biomechanics and manual therapy. While in the US and European countries you may become an Osteopathic Physician, in Canada regulations are different. Some Osteopathic Manual Practitioners may hold a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) but are not allowed to practice as a physician.

Why choose Manual Osteopathy?

Manual Osteopathy is a safe and effective treatment for all ages. The underlying philosophy and principles in Osteopathy include the belief that the body functions as a unit, and that it contains self- healing, self-regulating properties. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners work to treat the body using gentle techniques that bring the body to a place where it can self-heal and self-regulate. It focuses on decreasing pain, increasing range of motion, decrease muscle spasm, increase blood flow and circulation, and overall leaves the patient feeling good.

What common complaints and conditions can osteopathy treat?

Headaches, TMJ pain, acid reflux, sinus congestion, acute or chronic pain, back or neck pain, visceral/organ restrictions, sprained or strained ligaments, nerve impingent pain, muscle spasms, fascial hypertonicity, decreased range of motion, bony misalignments.

Osteopathy is partially or fully covered by most extended healthcare plans. Before you make an appointment check to see if your plan covers this type of treatment.
